MCMINNVILLE, Ore., July 22 (UPI) -- Two 13-year-old Oregon boys are facing serious sex charges for allegedly slapping female classmates' bottoms as a form of horseplay.
Police arrested Cory Mashburn and Ryan Cornelison of McMinnville and if convicted could be permanently marked as sex offenders, The Portland Oregonian said Sunday. The teens also could spend as long as 10 years in juvenile detention if found guilty.
While the boys' parents have opposed such a harsh penalty, McMinnville District Aattorney Bradley Berry said such youthful acts could have longstanding consequences for the alleged victims.
"These cases are devastating to children," he said. "They are life-altering cases."
Interviews with the boys' fellow students found other teens were engaging in similar behavior at the time and two of the female victims have since recanted their statements.
The Oregonian said the boys are due in court on Aug. 20 to answer to all charges stemming from the February event.
We used to call that grab a**
REad more about it on Dennis Prager’s blog—also see video of the 13 year old boys accused of a sex crime:

Dennis Prager talking about this on his show right now. He mentioned about setting up a fund for the kids parents. They are being hurt financially by this.
What kind of life gets altered by a butt slap?
Which? Getting your butt slapped or being arrested as a sex offender?
Had the boys been gay, the school would have funded a club for them.
‘”These cases are devastating to children,” he said. “They are life-altering cases.”’
Oh, puh-leese. These are adolescent males and most likely just need a stern talking to about the proper way to interact with the newly-interesting to them opposite gender. By this standard I’d probably have been labelled a sex offender for some of the stupid, juvenile things I did at that age.
They shoulda known better. Hang ‘em high.
Heres the article from the Oregonian:

I read elsewhere that complaints have been already been filed for prosecutorial misconduct.
The anti-male bashing crowd has completely taken over. I say unto the judge, the prosecutor and every one involved in the justice system that is ruining these kids lives, he who is without sin, cast the first stone. Because I can guarantee you that the majority of guys and girls have been guilty of playing grab-ass at sometime in their lives. This is pathetic and the prosecutor deserves a bullet.
Jeesh! Back when I was in high school the only thing we would get is permanently marked by the football coach/vice principal.
I think that McMinnville District Aattorney Bradley Berry got slapped around a bit when he was in school.
Prager comparing prosecutor to Nifong.
Brad buddy... You are in the real world now. You don't have to bow down to the feminist overlords who rule college campuses.
Don’t tell me Mike Nifong is working under an AKA.
This is absolutely absurd and this dipswitch needs to be Nifonged.
Yep. We did too.
We would run around school popping the girls on the rear.
Some would turn around and chase us and beat the crap out of us.
Some of the more timid ones would tell the teacher and the teacher would whack us with a yard stick and make us apologize.
And that was the end of it.
Those girls are pushing 40 now and I doubt they even remember it. I doubt their lives have been ruined. I doubt they are still in therapy because of it.
“These cases are devastating to children,” he said. “They are life-altering cases.”
This guy sounds like he’s lost his fragile grip on reality.
Exactly my thoughts. I hardly think the girls will be scarred for life, but those poor boys most likely will. Kids horseplay all the time. They’re making a big deal out of NOTHING! I feel for those poor kids.
However, we need to ask ourselves why we have such a coarse culture and why children behave like this, and why parents think it's no big deal.
Most of all, we need to ask ourselves "How do we turn this around, and raise children who will treat people with respect?"
One way to do so is, in fact, to impose draconian sentences so that the word goes out that misbehavior is subject to excessive punishment. That might change things. But if we don't want to do that, it begs the question: "What ought we to do?"
Sounds like DA Berry needs to go back to school and take some classes in common sense and priorities in prosecuting cases. It also sounds like McMinnville needs a new DA.
Well, then they'll soon be arresting entire sports teams now, no?
Meanwhile, on the sidebar to this article you can enjoy photos of (and no, I didn't bother to check them out):
Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center managed to gather 68 men to dress in drag and perform a chorus line in Pioneer Square Sunday to best the previous record of 58.
I always knew you were a perv. :P
personally, i’d say the punishment should reflect the crime. a few minutes in the woodshed should do the trick.
The students need to know that kind of behavior is not appropriate nor gentlemanly
Wondering if the girls today come up to the boys, “fake ‘em out” and pinch them as they did in my youth. Oooooh that used to “P” me off.
We have been thrashing this here over the weekend:

Oh Puhhhlease. Do you need to have gravity explained to you, or how the sun will come up every morning, or why 13 year old boys will be prone to playing grab-ass with 13 year old girls???? Gee, maybe draconian laws will stop the ocean tides as well.
This guy sounds like hes lost his fragile grip on reality.
I believe he's referring to the two boys, who now face 10 yrs. jail & life long reg. as sex offenders (plus 10K to hire lawyers).
Read the article in post 10 for lots more info,
If butt slaps were prosecuted, pretty much every high school assistant football coach would be serving time.
I never found out who did it , but it just crossed my mind. It could have been my brother. ;-)
Let the girls’ fathers smack the boys on the head a couple of times. That should just about do it.
I was outright sexually harassed at this age, but I would never have wanted the offenders jailed. Suspended for a week and cleaning erasers for the rest of the year, yes. Jailed, no.
YOu see what I mean about giving women any clout at all? You see what I mean? And the women who encourage this, and make a living at it, also vote and promote abortions. And run for president. THese same women are also mostly to blame for the Duke fiasco.

Um, because there’s nothing coarse about kids playing grab ass. It’s a natural stage in human development—that’s also why it’s no big deal.
The reactions of the adults involved are what’s making this entire issue more traumatic. They are the one making this a big deal when it should have been resolved quickly by the teachers.
These boys need proper adult supervision, not jail sentences. What happened to an adult pulling them aside and telling them to, “Cut it out!” What moron got a police officer involved?
The school staff who were involved should be fired, because they are clearly incompetent. GEESH!
Nobody has said that the kids shouldn’t be punished. They should be punished in a way to teach them that you can’t go around popping girls behinds.
Every generation from the dawn of mankind has done this horseplay so its not a new thing that is the sign of the times.
Kids mess up and do things they aren’t supposed to. They should be punished so that they will know that is unacceptable behavior. Not labled for the rest of their lives.
I can’t imagine these boys in 30 years. Being accountants, teachers, engineers, maybe even preachers with families of their own, having to register as a sex offender because they popped a girl on the butt in the schoolyard at age 13.
McMinnville District Aattorney Bradley Berry should get 10 years.
I remember another girl and I doing this same kind of behavior with two boys in the halls of our school in the 6th grade. Almost the same age as this group of kids. I think your right—it’s just something silly kids about that age do.
The most appropriate way to handle this is for an older brother to beat the tar out of the little idiot.
Worked on me. Never did that again.
Treating it as a criminal act is ludicrous.
Also, it should be noted the girls in this case were doing it to the boys. Nothing has happened to them.
Because it isn’t. Our culture is the most refined in history. Women have rights unknown to past cultures, and to many present ones.
Kids have been horsing around like this since before recorded history. Somehow they survived. I think these kids will too.
I think you do have a point there.
I have read about schools teaching kids in GRADE school to explore their sexuality. Telling young girls it’s ok to experiment with same sex relationships.
How very hypocritical.
Disclaimer: I do NOT approve of what these boys have been doing, but kids no longer are taught manners, limits and other important social skills. Most aren't anyway.

Well said! I seriously believe the DA as well as the teachers/staff who were involved should be fired.
