ROCHESTER - Volunteers from a Seattle organization are humanely trapping the rats that overran Michele Diller’s home and hope to put the rodents up for adoption.
Rats made themselves at home at Diller’s residence in the 17000 block of Sargent Road after a few that she kept to feed her pet snakes escaped from cages and reproduced.
Eventually, the rat infestation caused problems, leaving the carpets and floors covered with urine and feces. The rats also got into the walls and chewed through electrical wiring.
Hilary Price, of RatsPac NW in Seattle, said her volunteer organization has removed more than 100 rats killed with poisoned traps. The rodents were killed before her organization got involved.
The remainder of the rats are being captured alive using humane traps borrowed from Animal Services.
