Shelby Sendelbach, a sixth-grader in the Katy Independent School District, was read her rights, ticketed and punished with a mandatory four-month assignment to an alternative school because she wrote "I love Alex" on a gymnasium wall with a baby blue Sharpie.

Good news, they reversed the decision. (http://www.katycitizens.org/index_files/Page3475.htm) But reading this article.... this isn't the first one! Looks like 8 students have had similar problems! It sure took a while for the school to learn that lesson.

When I was in 6th grade (45 years ago) I got a swat across my fanny from the principal and was made to clean the wall. No one else was involved, not even my parents unless I told them, which I wouldn't unless I really wanted trouble. My peers took note of my experience and altered their ambitions accordingly. Looks like 8 other students avoided my fate. What a difference a few decades can make.
