Not only is extinction a bigger issue than saving some greenhouse gases, but it is the barbaric way that they are caught and killed. Surely they could have come up with a more humane way than harpooning to catch a whale in the last few hundred years, but the Japanese (and the Norwegian from the article) still torture whales using this method.
