A child falls into a pool. An officer responding to the 911 call slips in a puddle of the water created by the family pulling him out, hurts her knee, and sues the family. Her lawyer, unbelievably, says that the family (whose son is now brain damaged and breathing/eating through tubes for the rest of his life) has "brought this on themselves" and they are "playing the victim".

Several years ago I permanently smashed my leg and ankle while responding as a volunteer EMT to a call for a baby not breathing. It didn't even cross my mind to sue the parents. The injury occurred in the line of duty, covered by Workman's Comp and disability insurance. Going after the parents of a permanently injured child is reprehensible. If this cop can't handle the known hazards of the job she should change careers. Her attorney isn't any better. He should be sanctioned by the court for promoting idiocy. Who gets sued next here? The pool builder? End The Nonsense, one case at a time.

This has been dropped by the EMT. The lawyer who agreed to accept her suit should be repremanded!

Okinawa57 - a link to the reference showing the case was dropped would be nice.

I have to agree with twinhound's thinking. The cop has no business suing these people. Did she expect them to carefully dry the baby off before they attempted to resuscitate? Why would a parent stop long enough to do that when they need to immediately get to a phone to call 911? Who would think about mopping the floor before the emergency responders arrive? I know I sure wouldn't have! I might not even think about it until after it had dried on its own.
