All an animal rights group wants is for Matthew Heisl Pan, age 26, to have a legal guardian. Unfortunately, Pan is a chimpanzee. The lower courts have ruled that the group lacks standing to sue on Pan's behalf on the sensible grounds that they aren't related to him. An appeal is pending.
