Officials say 51-year-old Mark Louviere was walking past a soccer game in the yard at the Newton Correctional Facility in August when one of the participants collapsed. Louviere reportedly helped medical staff perform CPR.

Louviere pleaded guilty in August 2007 to several meth-related charges. His tentative release date is in 2052.

Corrections officials say acts of heroism, such as saving a life, can reduce an inmate's prison time. They say Louviere received 30 days off his remaining sentence.
