A new law makes the fact that a woman who says "yes" to sex while drunk is highly relevant: it may vitiate her consent. But a man's intoxication must be ignored when working out whether he had "reasonable grounds" for believing consent was given. It is a curious law that says alcohol only affects the cognitive abilities of women.

People under the influence of alcohol can, are, and should be held legally responsible for their actions. Drinking and driving, assault, vandalism, theft, all these crimes allow no leeway for someone being "too drunk to know what they were doing."
But suddenly, if it's a woman and she has sex after knowingly imbibing enough alcohol to make her drunk, she's a victim with no responsibility for her own actions.
I'm not talking about women who are drugged. I'm talking about women who intentionally down drink after drink. Women who are theoretically rational adults who can tell the difference between good and bad choices and know their own bodies well enough to know how much they should be drinking in mixed gender social situations.
Unless laws like this get soundly squashed, women will continue to be treated like victims, like children, and like mental and moral deficients that need to be protected by our stronger, smarter, more morally responsible menfolk. If this offends you, it should! It is a step backwards in the fight for equal rights and equal respect for women.
There is one thing I know, though. If I ever need to kill someone, I'm going to make sure to get drunk first. That way I can make the argument that if I'm not responsible for my actions when it comes to drinking and sex, how could I possibly be responsible for any other actions?
