Mark Smith snuck past Heather Stephenson as she was ironing, and helped himself to her jewelry and checkbook. But the vodka and valium taken earlier that morning took it's toll. Stephenson was surprised to see a pair of legs sticking out from under the bed when she went up stairs later and was unable to roust him; the police could not roust him either and pulled him out from under the bed with all his loot in his rucksack and clutching a pair of earrings.
