A parish chairman has been banned from taking his wheelbarrow to a civic recycling site on safety grounds despite having done so for the past eight years.
Andre Wheeler, 61, has used the barrow without incident to deliver glass, cans, paper and garden waste to the nearby tip.
But now council officials have instructed him to stop walking and make the journey by car instead.
Mr Wheeler, who chairs Barwell Parish Council, Leicestershire, said: "It's too ridiculous for words. Telling me to burn petrol to recycle is hardly going to save the the planet - it's nonsense.
